Portland Millpond Community Fishing Open Day, 13 Sep 2026

Join us for a free, family-friendly day at the The Millpond in Portland!

Celebrating the success of the Millpond restoration, this in community event will bring people together to enjoy recreational fishing, environmental education and one of Portland’s valued natural attractions.

Inspired by the popularity of Gone Fishing Day, the Open Day is all about having fun, connecting with the community and encouraging people of all ages and experience levels to give fishing a go—without the pressure of a formal competition.

Harrie Fasher: Before Dawn, Nov 2025–Feb 2026

Lead Artist in Residence Harrie Fasher’s major solo exhibition at Orange Regional Gallery.

Harrie Fasher, Lead Artist in Residence at The Portland Foundry and Harrie Fasher Studios, opened her major solo exhibition “Before Dawn” at Orange Regional Gallery, running from 29 November 2025 to 22 February 2026. The exhibition featured monumental bronze, steel and concrete sculptures, marking a decade of artistic and technical research developed largely at The Foundations.

Orange Regional Gallery Director Brad Hammond described the work as “ambitious, extraordinary and personal” at the opening. Harrie Fasher was assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia.

National Art School Postgrad Show meets the Squatter’s Residency Award, 2025

electing our latest Squatter’s Residency Award recipient.

Representatives from The Foundations, Harrie Fasher Studios and Arts OutWest gathered at the Master of Fine Art preview event of the National Art School Postgrad Show 2025 to select that year’s recipient of The Foundations Squatter’s Residency Award. Five National Art School Master’s students have received the award since it began in 2021, as part of an ongoing Memorandum of Understanding between The Foundations, Arts OutWest and the National Art School.

Creative Business Day with Creative Plus Business, 2025

A day connecting our creative community with practical business support.

The Foundations hosted a Creative Business Day in The Annexe in partnership with Arts OutWest and Creative Plus Business, funded by Service NSW Business Connect. The session brought together a wide cross-section of the region’s creative small businesses, including graphic designers, ceramic artists, musicians, event producers, filmmakers, visual artists, theatre makers, a costume maker and a puppeteer.

An outdoor sketching event at our heritage-listed Bottle Kilns.

Draw Portland brought local artists to sketch the heritage-listed Bottle Kilns at The Foundations, two rare surviving brick kilns (out of the original eight) built around 1889, constructed with iron ties and turnbuckles.
